Create a product comparison chart/Order samples: To create a product comparison chart that lists the typical chemical analysis and physical properties for each selected product, check the box next to the product(s) that you want to view and then click "Compare Products." From this product comparison chart you created, you can order product samples by checking "Order Sample" at the bottom of the chart column for that product and then clicking "Submit."

Paint and Coatings Resins Medium Oil Alkyd

Alkyd resins are produced by reacting a dibasic acid with a polyol and drying oil. The existence of numerous possible reactants leads to an almost endless variety of finished resins. The oil length of an alkyd resin is defined as the number of grams of oil used to produce 100 grams of resin. As the oil length of the resin increases, generally the viscosity decreases, the hardness of the film decreases, film flexibility increases and water resistance is reduced.

Medium oil alkyds are easily air dried and are readily soluble in aliphatic solvents; while short oil alkyds are typically oven dried with the solubility limited to aromatic and other non-aliphatic solvents. Medium oil alkyds exhibit behavior of mixed characteristics. Coatings systems manufactured using these resins are used in farm equipment enamels, machinery enamels, industrial maintenance paints, traffic paints, wood or metal coatings, floor enamels, government specification paints and air dry or baked primers.
